ROMANIAN DANCE SHOWCASE 2014 // The Dance House in European Cultural Policies / Round table

This roundtable intends to be a meeting about the role and mission of a House of Dance – what NDCB wants to be and to develop into.
In the same time, it is a dialog between dance production systems that are distinct, but not completely different - a meeting about how we make dance in Romania, in Eastern Europe, in the European Union, which are the policies aimed at performing arts and how they influence what is produced at a certain moment, in a given space.

Artists, dance producers, managers, representatives of the authorities responsible for cultural policies in Romania, programmers and foreign critics will try to answer pressing questions about how much attention is paid to contemporary dance in European countries in terms of public and private financing, what is the role of international festivals in boosting original creation, what career options dance artists have in different local and transnational contexts. And even the difficult topic: how is it (still) possible to make dance in full process of social changing?
In fact, the future of contemporary dance depends on the present of the resources – financial, infrastructural, for training, in terms of public policy – it has at its disposal, and this roundtable is a rare opportunity to discuss them.
