Krõõt Juurak & Alex Bailey: Codomestication

‘Imagine human’ continues with 'Codomestication' by Krõõt Juurak & Alex Bailey, a coproduction TQW and the artists.
The show is followed by an artist talk.

“We do this work not only because we believe in a society that is more inclusive of children and others but also because the creativity of these ‘others’ is inspiring to us even and especially when it disrupts and undermines our established paths and working methods.” — Krõõt Juurak & Alex Bailey

The artist couple – proud parents of Albert –combine affective labour and childcare with artistic work, 'Codomestication' addressing the precarious nature of both. In this project, they have invited their son to act as a co-director and collaborator in designing (and possibly performing) the work. Co-living and collaborating with a toddler can be challenging and sometimes even infuriating – we grownups may well have to give up some if not all our personal wishes and artistic ideals to make this work possible.
“Children force adults to be either anarchists or authoritarians”, Darren O’Donnell stated in ‘Haircuts by Children’.

A society where you have to choose between work and spending time with your children is not good enough for us. As the meaning of work is changing rapidly, we will have to look at children to understand what work will look like in the future.

Krõõt Juurak & Alex Bailey are artists and performers working and living in Vienna. Their recent performance collaborations include 'Animal Jokes (for Animals)' and 'Performances for Pets', which have been performed at various private and public spaces in Europe.

'Imagine human' is a performative program initiated by Adriana Gheorghe.
Imagine that human are not something to overcome, but something to yet arrive to. Imagine that the world were not so utterly sad right now and there is still space for imagination, action and transformation quite at hand. Imagine that performativity and performance were not the abused notions they kind of are, but the frequency of attention, where human became a matter of aesthetics, of imagination and event, so that all those attending a performance, on both sides of reception, get invited to a space of possible reformulation of themselves, of society, of reality. Imagine performativity to be the nice thing that spoils given formats inducing intermedial panic (it might look like a performance, but..) and that indeterminacy is such a poetical and political force!

CODOMESTICATION is presented with the support of DANCE ON TOUR AUSTRIA – a project by Tanzquartier Wien in cooperation with the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs. / DANCE ON TOUR AUSTRIA – Ein Kooperationsprojekt des Tanzquartier Wien und des Bundesministeriums für Europa, Integration und Äußeres
