Daughters, de Simona Deaconescu

"Daughters" is a performance about transformation, in which three fictionalized micro-histories, loaded with irony and suspense, intertwine and create a new identity. Three girls on roller skates alter a preset timeline. Their actions are filtered and recomposed into an analog multimedia universe.

We are the daughters of a generation, a community, a hyper-universe where reality is narrated in explosive fragments of information. We are the cyborgs of a constantly changing world, in a state of constant accumulation and tension, in which the notions of space and time are lost. In "Daughters", the present is delayed and stretches like an elastic, stops or flows like a moving perpetuum.

"The performance is inspired by the post-punk atmosphere of the '70s and the beginning of cyber art. Ideas as tension and convulsion feed the body as principles of either holding or reacting back to the world. In this regard, space functions as a realm of possibilities, flexible and accessible to the audience and susceptible to disruption. In "Daughters" I am interested to explore the subtle sensation of intimate proximity, framed in an analog video and audio setting, that can dislocate and enhance the movement. Far from being a pretentious over-intellectual work, the performance is tinted with black humour and irony, in a concert like atmosphere."

"Daughters" is part of the "Sons and Daughters" trilogy. A first stage of the project was realised in Canada, within Springboard Danse Montreal and consisted of a performance installation created by choreographer Simona Deaconescu, together with an international team of 15 dancers. The work was presented at Usine C in Montreal, on June 28, in the section Emerging Choreographers. For the show in Bucharest, the choreographer chose to continue the collaboration with the musician Monocube (DE / UA), whose sound universe is a reflection on the contemporary world through analog instruments. The visual composition is signed by the artist M. Kardinal (DE) and realized by methods that deconstruct the shapes, the images becoming distorted and blurred in their play with the subject and the object.

*The performance contains texts in English language.
