COUNTERBODY is a show containing dance, installation and music in which all the elements can be regarded as particles in constant movement, mutable and parallel. According to curator Olivia Nițiș, the show’s starting point have been attempts to deconstruct, destructure and disembody through relativisation processes assumed in the field of dance, but also through a concept that includes multiple layers of decoding. The installation, the text and the original music decompose and recompose the movement spaces, accentuating the constant relationship of body-space transfer.

“In each rehearsal, ’COUNTERBODY’ teleports me into a parallel reality and it allows me the opportunity to discover new layers of understanding, rooted at the boundary between rational and irrational. Together with the performers, I’ve searched for a new body that functions according to the principle of contradictions, a tense combination of fragility and super-power, alienated and connected with the exterior, disorganised and fluid, capable to absorb and transform the information flux in astonishing ways”, says Simona Deaconescu.

Simona Deaconescu studied both choreography, at the National University of Theatre and Film „I.L. Caragiale” (Bucharest), and filmmaking at the Media University. She continued her studies by taking part in various international training programmes. In 2014, she received a danceWEB scholarship and in 2015 she received a partial scholarship for The Invincible Loser programme at Uferstudios, Berlin, studying the dance and composition techniques that form the basis of the methods used by the Hofesh Shechter, Peeping Tom, Johannes Wieland and Smack companies. She furthered her research in residencies offered by the Gabriela Tudor Foundation, the 4Culture Association and Battery Dance Studios New York.

In 2013, she founded Tangaj Dance, an independent dance company that produces projects at the intersection between art and science, film and dance, while in 2015 she initiated the Bucharest International Dance Film Festival,

the only dance film festival in Romania, whose artistic director she has been until now. In 2016, Simona received a CNDB Award for her contribution to Romanian contemporary dance.
