Displacement Pills - Este Regalo Es Tuyo :: intervention by Cristiane Bouger >> May 14th and 15th, various locations, Bucharest

Displacement Pills deals with the act of leaving gifts in places that were designed for consumption and equipped to surveillance control. It searches for destabilizing people’s immanent and constructed expectation of having their (or others) products stolen. Through subtle gift delivery on the displays and shelves of places like grocery stores, bookshops, ATM machines, subway stations and phone booths, this action comprises a poetic and political act that deflagrates responses which, in an ideal scenario, will never be known by the performer.

Through investigating the evanescence of an act and simultaneously creating a displacement of the denotative logic of market place, the action creates a certain instability: a Baudelaire poetry book can be left at a sex shop booth as well as a $10 bill can be left on an ATM machine. Once someone finds the pack stating “This gift is yours” or “This artistic act now belongs to you”, a decision needs to be made: the labeled-gifts can be thrown into the garbage, rejected, ignored or even accepted. Any of these reactions will provide a response to the work and complement its interactive purpose.
All the packs containing products have the receipt of its purchase attached inside the package, allowing the participant to take it without embarrassment.

From this action a potential narrative can be developed. Though, the performer will not witness its development, only its potentiality. All the occurrences and derivations of the action will lie veiled behind the performer suggesting a complete dissolution of any control or spectacular outcome.
