Project Description

Roads Open to Art of Dance Sharing (R.O.A.D.S.) is a new cooperation project by the Dance Roads network, providing a platform for emerging choreographers, producers, dramaturgs and critics to take the first steps to internationalise their work. Through a programme of training and artist development opportunities, international networking at festivals and a tour of new work that showcases the talent of European dance artists, R.O.A.D.S. creates a unique pathway for emergent artists to establish themselves in Europe. R.O.A.D.S. also pilots a significant new audience development strategy, which invites audiences into the creative process and development of new artwork giving them an exciting way to engage with dance.

From 2018 till 2019, artists from the Netherlands, the UK, France, Bulgaria, Romania, Italy, the Czech Republic and Hungary will be supported by partners to create, produce, promote and tour new work. R.O.A.D.S. will provide selected choreographers, dramaturgs and producers the professional support, practical tools and resources, and the network to empower them to continue working internationally and building a sustainable career in dance. Our partner organisations will combine forces to ensure that the contemporary dance scene in each country is connected to the European conversation. With a diverse range of partners representing the four corners of Europe, R.O.A.D.S. brings together cultural differences in a positive and constructive way – to celebrate different ideas, voices and approaches in contemporary dance to create a unique European collaboration.

Priorities

The mission of the project is to support choreographers, dramaturgs, producers and critics to develop an international career in dance. The overarching priority of R.O.A.D.S. is to nurture artistic quality and high-quality production values. This means creating space for artists to experiment and take risks, and to receive feedback from audiences through to experts. Creating a ‘co-creation’ space for artists to share ideas with each other and encouraging dialogue within the art form. Creating new partnerships that embed dramaturgy in the development phase for dance.
